At Trails of Middle Earth, we’re proud to donate 1 % of all proceeds to the Love Queenstown Community Fund. Every adventure you book with us supports grass‑roots efforts to preserve Queenstown’s breathtaking landscapes.
What is Love Queenstown?
Love Queenstown is a giving platform inviting visitors and the tourism industry to protect and preserve Queenstown’s unique environment, now and for future generations. Since launching in 2023, they’ve granted over $25 ,000 to local organisations, planted more than 6, 000 native trees, and involved hundreds of volunteers in clean‑ups and planting days . Their vision is to connect visitors with environmental projects, create a giving culture in tourism, and ensure funds raised are reinvested in our whenua (land) and whanāu (community).
Real Impact In Queenstown
The first round of grants supported vital local groups:
- Whakatipu Reforestation Trust – restoring habitat on Slope Hill, planting thousands of natives for healthier biodiversity.
- Tāhuna Glenorchy Dark Skies Group – protecting dark sky sanctuaries and researching native bats using acoustic monitoring.
- Whakatipu Wildlife Trust – expanding predator control projects to safeguard over 35 threatened species.
Additionally, 80 % of donations go directly to such initiatives, while 20 % is invested into an endowment, ensuring sustainable funding into the future.

Tolkien, Jackson & Our Wild Places
J.R.R. Tolkien’s reverence for forests and rivers echoes through his writing, Middle‑earth is alive because nature is alive. Sir Peter Jackson brought that vision to life on-screen in and around Queenstown, filming epic scenery where mountains, lakes, and forests became part of our shared cinematic heritage.
Like Tolkien and Jackson, we believe protecting these landscapes matters, not just because they’re beautiful, but because they’re living ecosystems. By contributing to Love Queenstown, we honour that legacy and help ensure Queenstown remains a place of wonder and biodiversity.
