Glacier Southern Lakes Helicopters was involved in the filming of The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, with some of the pilots being principal filming pilot for those and other major movies.

Important Notes:
All Helicopter bookings are on a request basis only with guaranteed confirmation/availability and departure times varying each day. We will email you within 24hrs after booking with your confirmation details including pickup and departure time. Please let us know if you are flexible with your dates in the booking notes incase we need to check availability on a different date.
Your discounted LOTR Tour combo can only take place on the same day if you choose the ‘Half Day in Middle Earth’ all other tours selected must take place on a different day to the Helicopter experience.

Required info needed/Booking Notes*:
- Pick Up: For Trails of Middle Earth Tours Outside the Queenstown Station Information Centre (43 Camp Street). If you require a different pick up address this may be possible for an additional charge. Please select at checkout or contact us to arrange.
- Glacier Southern Lakes Helicopters by default will pick you up at the loading bay outside of the Queenstown I-Site / Happy Tours shop (36 Camp Street) at the time designated once your flight has been confirmed. Please advise if you would like to arrange an alternative pickup location.
- If you have infants or children under 10 please check the age limits of the land based tour you would like to combine with as they vary between itineraries. We do accept all ages on Private Tours. If you would like to arrange a private tour, please select that option or contact us directly.
- Unfortunately, our tour does not cater for people in wheelchairs, as our buses do not have a specialised lift.
- Please note: between January and June, due to the summer conditions such as snow cover changes exposing crevasses, we may not be able to land on a Glacier as our landing locations are limited. In such instances, you will always flyover the Glaciers, but we can’t guarantee a Glacier landing. Your pilot will choose the next best alternative such as landing close to the Glacier or opting for an Alpine landing, either of which will have spectacular views.
